Lore:
[Redacted] was abandoned by his parents on Callisto, he grew up amongst the clowns and carnies alongside his lifelong pal, Roach. Life was pretty normal for him, he ran a (weight guesser, balloon pop, hammer drop, etc) stand and made little handmade trinkets to win as a prize.
One day some strange men in suits came sneaking around his big top, claiming they were looking for him, he had information they wanted. His friend Roach warned him he needed to hit the road immediately, these guys were the real deal, Iron Lotus. His manager said he had a friend who could lend him a vehicle capable of space travel and he just needs to get out of town for a while as they sort this out for him.
He hesitantly boarded with his belongings and began traveling the system, looking for interesting people to meet through his sales. Over the past couple years Carl has built himself a solid reputation on Ganymede, Rhea, and Venus as a guy who will get stuff done. That isnt to say he hasn't gotten in his fair share of trouble.
A casual Tuesday like any other [Redacted] went down to the local general store across the street from a place he was staying in Ganymede, for the vendors guild convention, he was cornered in this store by what looked to be some kind of government agents.
The last thing he remembered before waking up in an abandoned government facility, was those strange men putting guns to his back and guiding him to their dropship parked out back. Now trying to recollect what happened he walked through this underground maze of server rooms, test chambers and pillars, to find only 1 body: a human scientist by the name of Carl Grey. He took a gun, ID, and some money off of him, stole some clothes out of a dresser, and tried looking for an escape.
After 3 hours of navigating the concrete facility, he came to a parking garage with nothing in it except some keys, a flying RV, a fresh fuel cell, a phone, and a phone number. He dialed the number, opening the garage door Infront of him opening up to the vacuum of space. He drove the RV out and noticed he had been walking through a derelict space station. It had to be abandoned for a few decades to warrant the distress it was under. After silently hovering in space for a while he received a phone call from a mysterious man, who left a heavy crackle in the phone as he spoke, and said he has a lot to explain and no time to do so, he just needs Carl to get to io immediately, using the cover of a vendor with supplies in the RV, the nameless man had nothing better to do, and plot a course for Io.
Now with fragments of memories of his past, and what felt like memories that didn't belong to him, he kept trying to sort out the truths in his mind and figure out why some of these memories didn't feel right. To his recollection his Father was a master at invention, revolutionizing the understanding of ways to use light magic to help spaceships travel within safe grids to confirm a ship never crashes into another at light speed.
His brother followed in his father's footsteps and made a revolutionary discovery that cures martian sickness, a horrible flu like disease that can kill humanoids, with the cure spreading, life on Mars may be possible, putting him in the front of the pilgrimage to mars. Carl is struggling with where he fits in to all of this as he really enjoys the thrill of the sale, he has his heart in inventions as well similar to his family, but isn't interested in such life altering devices.
