Ganymede
The rain, never blinking. The perpetual night sky, a stream of light and chrome. From the sidewalk, I'm sinking into the shadows of these hulking demonstrations of wealth. Beside me, a man begs for clean water and shelter from the light.
Background
When the final generation of humans left Earth, many set their sights on Mars and Saturn. However, to a large number of descendants of the Kaz family, Ganymede was seen by many as the best option for a fresh start. Being the largest moon in the system, it granted vast room for a second chance. These Earthen migrants had incredibly high aspirations, deep pockets, and plenty of volunteer workers to get the jobs they needed done.
As the first human civilizations were blossoming on Mars, a huge mining operation of rare metals was underway. These metals gave the earth bending Kaz locals a huge advantage in profit and strategic value. Over the next few centuries they began developing this private mining community into one of the most complex and sprawling metropolises known to mankind. By the late 2500's, many of the Kaz bloodline had died out and the traditions of respect for the green, and a need for nature in general, became more obsolete with the complex layered city grids. Most of the plant-life here now is synthetic, and if not, viewed by locals like a fishtank.
